Description:

The project consists in the construction of a new means of public transport in the Region of Valparaiso, which will connect Viña del Mar and Reñaca through a tram that will travel along the coast. The new means of transportation will allow for trips with a frequency of two minutes during rush hour and with an estimated capacity of 200 passengers (considered 144 standing and 56 seated passengers). For this purpose, there will be five-module, 30-metre-long trams that will operate with a magnetic charge card. The initiative proposes to start operations with two lines. Line 1 would begin in Estero de Reñaca to Viña del Mar del MERVAL station, located along the coast to 15 Norte Street, and then continue along Libertad Avenue to the Metro station. Line 2 would start at 15 Norte Street until Miramar del MERVAL Station, located by the coast. Among the benefits of the project, which will provide a new alternative of displacement for the inhabitants of the area, the reduction of the times of trip and the decongestion of the road network of the Great Valparaiso stand out.
