All four Affinitas’ member firms recognized as Elite Firms by Latin Lawyer Elite 2021

For the first time this year, the English publication, Latin Lawyer 250 presents leading Latin American law firms (and international firms visible in the region) ranking them in three distinct categories: Elite, Highly Recommended and Recommended, from research based on reported transactions and advice, in addition to their client relationships, and knowledge of Latin American markets.

Affinitas is delighted to share all four of its member firms are once again recognized as Elite Firm. No other international firm, network or alliance managed to achieve this result across the countries of the Pacific Alliance, which confirms, according to Latin Lawyer 250, its positioning, leadership and trajectory in the region.

The following is a summary of the characteristics that stand out in each of the Affinitas member firms:

  • Barros & Errázuriz (Chile) stands out as a “Full-service offer with transactional clout”. The publication also highlights 15 practice areas, reaffirming its position as one of the leading firms in its country.
  • Gómez-Pinzón (Colombia) was recognized as “Transactional leader with regional outlook”, for being a leader in transactional matters with regional outlook, with 19 recommended practice areas and an important recognition in Mergers & Acquisitions and Capital Markets transactions.
  • Mijares, Angoitia, Cortés y Fuentes (Mexico) was ranked as “Transactional excellence from full-service team”. This law firm has 16 recommended practice areas, and reaffirms its commitment to quality and responsiveness, which consolidates its position as one of the leading law firms in its country.
  • Miranda & Amado (Peru) was recognized as a “Dynamic Corporate Powerhouse”, for its leadership in transactional and non-transactional work. With 17 recognized practice areas, the firm emphasizes its focus on innovation and excellence.

The publication is the result of an annual survey conducted by Latin Lawyer’s editorial team and is elaborated with the objective of identifying the strengths and key players in the Latin American legal market. It is worth noting that the guide, present for more than 20 years, covers more than 18 countries in Latin America, the United States, Canada and Europe, thus guaranteeing a rigorous analysis of the current state of the legal market in the Latin American region.

Chambers and Partners ranks 112 Affinitas lawyers and 52 practice areas in its 2022 Latin America

Chambers and Partners recently published its 2022 edition for Latin America. Chambers researched 19 countries and 199 practice areas in Latin America, covering the period from September 2020 to May 2021. The guide includes 670 ranked firms and 3751 individual rankings.

This guide ranks and reviews the top law firms and lawyers across the region, offering market-leading insights for those looking to discover the most suitable providers of legal services.

When looking at number of lawyers ranked in this latest edition, Affinitas stands out as the leading regional team in the market with a total of 112 lawyers being recognized. The closest competitors – other law firms that operate under a single brand and are present in several or all jurisdiction of the Pacific Alliance- lag behind, with the next five firms obtaining 95, 73, 52, 35, 33 and 28 rankings respectively.

Affinitas also obtained no less than 52 practice area rankings, making it the regional team with the strongest offering in its league. What stands out when having a closer look at these rankings is that out those 52 practice areas ranked, 13 are in Band1, 17 in Band 2, 18 in Band 3, and 4 in Band 4. This aligns perfectly with the business strategy of our alliance: leading in every market where we are present and for every service we offer.

Affinitas itself is also ranked in Band 1 in the category «Leading Regional Law Firm Networks in Latin America-wide».

Press Release: Affinitas will join the Fifth Edition of the MootComp LATAM as international sponsor

  • MootComp is a contest that promotes interdisciplinary skills of future professionals in Law and Economics.
  • Any student from Latin America can join the contest.

 The Affinitas Alliance will join the MootComp, Economic Competition Contest for Students of Law and Economics, as international sponsor, an event that aims to be an open forum for the debate of competition-related issues that, through practical cases and interdisciplinary work, promotes knowledge on the matters and generates work opportunities for its contestants.

The Contest, led by Carlos Orcí Berea, will also have the support from the member firms of Affinitas as national sponsors: Barros & Errázuriz (Chile), Gómez-Pinzón (Colombia), Mijares, Angoitia, Cortés y Fuentes (Mexico) y Miranda & Amado (Peru). The Competition Policy International (CPI), the local competition authorities, and different universities from Latin America will participate as sponsors as well.

The Fifth Edition of the MootComp will be carried out in virtual format, and the case to be resolved will focus on mergers in digital markets, a currently highly controversial sector, particularly related to the health and insurance markets. The winners of the MootComp will receive different awards to support them in continuing their studies and initiating their professional career, including post-graduate academic scholarships, books and subscriptions to publications specialized in economic competition, and job offers in the best institutions of Latin America, among others.

Each year the MootComp has had a growth of more than 100%. In the previous edition the Contest had 480 contestants, 98 coaches, 118 teams, 25 universities, 3 countries (Mexico, Peru, and Argentina), and 130 judges, and this year it is expected that more than double of contestants from different countries join the event.
